Just off Michigan's Red Arrow Highway—yeah, that's where the name comes from—is Greenbush Brewing Co. Started in 2011 by ex-Chicagoan Scott Sullivan and banking-industry vet Justin Heckathorn, Greenbush has quietly become a powerhouse in the Midwest's craft beer scene. Sullivan and Heckathorn love to ramp up the ABV and deliver full-bodied, flavorful brews, including its Star Chicken Shotgun, a hoppy West Coast IPA that features a dancing chicken dressed like Elvis on its label.
If you ever meet Red Arrow CEO Joe Tota, it's almost a guarantee that at some point the conversation will turn to Greenbush and his love affairs with imperial IPA Brother Benjamin and porter Distorter.
